Physically demanding, difficult, taxing…these are some of the preconceptions many young people have about the construction jobs. But a closer look reveals an industry that has evolved to utilize advanced technology, robotics, virtual reality, enhanced communications and project management streamlined through software.
Even so, as construction continues to grow and thrive, 80% of contractors report a labor shortage and are unable to find skilled workers and unfortunately only 3% of young people are interested in careers in construction. A gap in supply and demand that can be remedied by exposing a generation of coming job-seekers to the benefits of starting a career in construction.
As a way to reach these future colleagues, Pyramid Construction is excited to partner with The Partnership for Career Development on their project Career Connections: Virtual Career Exploration for Students.
The virtual version of this program was created in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and is designed to reach students in ADAMS, CUMBERLAND, DAUPHIN, FRANKLIN, JUNIATA, LEBANON, PERRY and YORK counties. Regardless of where they are learning, students will be introduced to local firms in industries of interest and offered a glimpse of what careers in that field might offer.
Pyramid provides students information on the Construction Industry as a whole and offers a profile of our company, including career paths, project descriptions and a look at the different technology we use to compete in modern construction.
The students will be able to ask questions that will be a part of a podcast Q&A that will be available to current and future students.
